PESTICIDE RESIDUES

In 2012, Greenpeace re-evaluated German food control data (more than 22,000 samples) and its own 2009/10 tests and issued a list containing the most chemical-synthetic pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables.
There were 351 active ingredients detected in domestic and imported goods.

According to Greenpeace, nearly 80% of the fruit and more than 55% of conventional vegetables contain pesticides.

The most polluted were:
Fruits: Pears (Turkey), Table grapes (Turkey and Germany), Strawberries (Morocco), Sweet cherries (Germany), Apples (Germany)
Vegetables: Paprika (Turkey), Lettuce (Italy), Cucumbers (Spain)

More information can be found here .

If somehow possible buy organic products. These are usually unloaded. And when pesticides are found, these concentrations are very, very low.

Another plus for organic products:
Scientific research has shown that organic fruit and vegetables have more vitamins and antioxidants than industrial, conventionally grown produce.

FOODS THAT GET LOTS OF ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that help protect the cells as radical scavengers.

What does that mean?
In the “burning” of carbohydrates, ie energy, oxygen is consumed and the carbohydrate molecules are degraded to carbon dioxide and water. This is an oxidation (metabolic process in which oxygen is involved). In this case, a small part of free radicals is formed.

Free radicals are atoms or molecules that lack an electron (usually stable molecular compounds always contain 2 electrons). In order to become complete again, an available electron is searched for in the environment within a very short time. For example, people like to use molecules of the cell membrane, proteins or DNA. These are now missing an electron and they also go on the search where they can “mop up” an electron. It creates a kind of chain reaction.

Stress, sunlight, alcohol, smoking, medicines, environmental pollution as well as competitive sports additionally contribute to the increased formation of free radicals.

If sufficient antioxidants are present in the body, the free radicals can “fetch” the electrons there and do not have to attack the cell walls.

Once the electrons have been released, antioxidants are immediately restored to their original form by reaction with other antioxidants and can once again be available as antioxidants.

It is therefore extremely important to supply the body with the necessary vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.

In cereals, milk, meat and finished products there are hardly any antioxidants.
On the other hand, the consumption of lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and wild plants will provide you with the most important radical scavengers.

The following foods are particularly rich in antioxidants:

Vegetables: artichokes, kale, carrots, peppers, parsley, Brussels sprouts, red cabbage, beetroot, spinach

Fruit: pineapple, apples, apricots, blackberries, cranberries, dates, strawberries, pomegranate, grapefruit, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, kiwi, oranges, plums, grapes, lemons, plums

Nuts and seeds: chia seeds, hemp seeds, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds, pecans, sunflower seeds, walnuts

Spices: chili, ginger, cumin, turmeric, cloves, oregano, pepper, cinnamon

The bran-based products are shown with more health perspectives when compared to refined flour. Consumers are more interested to utilize the bran-based products, such as cookies, bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, cakes, snacks, and more cake Singapore
